How a Community Basketball Court at Cottage by the Sea Is Making a Lasting Difference

A community project at Cottage by the Sea that keeps on giving

At Sports Courts Victoria, some projects mean more than just the build. In March 2024, we completed a basketball court installation at Cottage by the Sea in Queenscliff, a respected charity that provides care, support and positive experiences for children and young people. Since its installation, the court has become one of the most loved and used spaces on site.

Recently, Cottage by the Sea shared a video review and tagged us with @sports_courts_victoria, describing the Slam Man court as the highlight for so many children who walk through their doors. Seeing the joy, energy and excitement the court continues to bring almost a year on is incredibly rewarding for our team.

A Basketball Court Installed in March 2024 That Continues to Bring Smiles

The basketball court was designed to create a safe, welcoming and engaging play space for children of all ages. From day one, it has been a hub of activity, offering a place where kids can burn off energy, build confidence and connect with others through sport. Over time, the court has become part of the daily experience at Cottage by the Sea. Staff regularly see children gravitate towards the court as soon as they arrive, with basketball quickly breaking the ice and helping kids feel comfortable in a new environment. The court has proven to be more than just a recreational feature. It plays a meaningful role in supporting wellbeing, resilience and positive interaction.

Nothing But Smiles on Our Slam Man Court

In their recent post, Cottage by the Sea shared how the basketball court continues to be a standout feature for the children who visit. Their words captured exactly what this project was about. Creating a space that brings smiles, laughter and moments of normality for kids who truly deserve it. When the original basketball ring unfortunately fell and was damaged, Sports Courts Victoria stepped in and donated a replacement ring to ensure the court could continue to be enjoyed safely. Supporting Cottage by the Sea in this way reflects our ongoing commitment to community projects and organisations that make a real difference. Once the court was back in action, the response from the children said it all. Basketball quickly returned to being one of the most popular activities onsite, reinforcing how important this space has become. We are incredibly proud to have partnered with Cottage by the Sea on a project that continues to deliver positive outcomes well beyond installation day.
